L8-Elevator Speech

Hi, my name is Kristi Footit. I am currently a full-time student here at Utah Valley University and I also work in the Academic Tutoring Labs. I am currently working on a BS in Behavioral Science with a focus on Psychology while I am finishing the prerequisites to apply to the nursing program to obtain my RN. Returning to college has been a great adventure for me as I work towards a second career.
Over the last twenty-five years I have primarily worked in the finance industry in a varied of positions. The skills and experience I have gained range from office skills, interpersonal communication, credit evaluation, adherence to state and federal regulations, fraud detection, mortgage underwriting, processing, mortgage loan officer, mortgage file audit and many other areas of banking and finance.
My decision to return to school was prompted by many layoffs prior to the mortgage industry falling apart several years ago. When I looked into accepting another mortgage position, I looked really hard at myself and decided that regardless of all the knowledge and experience I had gained over the years had not done two main things for myself. The first was to feel personal satisfaction in knowing I have helped others and made a difference in their life. Helping individuals get into a home is really not something that could be considered making a difference in their life. In fact, often I would look at their application and know they were making a huge mistake but not be able to do anything as the current laws gave qualification. The second is that I would love to get into a career that I love to do everyday where I can expand my knowledge and possibly in the future become a Physicians Assistant.
